The Goldendoodle is a breed of dog which has derived from crossing the Golden Retriever with the Poodle. Poodle hybrids have become increasingly popular over recent years and it is possible that the combination of Golden Retriever and Poodle has been duplicated by many breeders in different countries.

As with the Labradoodle and many other Poodle cross breeds, the Goldendoodle was bred because it is a low-shedding breed, assistance dog for many individuals who require such a dog, such as those people that suffer from allergies due to shedding hair, or have any other type of problem with shedding hair to get on their personalized dog beds. However, it is not always the case of Goldendoodles exhibiting the hypoallergenic style of coat as the Poodle, and unfortunately, because of the fact that is a mixed breed dog, the puppies personalities cannot be correctly predicted. While some Goldendoodles may be low shedding, many others may shed small amounts of hair, and others may shed as much as a Golden Retriever.

Some breeders believe that the Goldendoodle is a hypoallergenic dog. However, people that suffer with allergies believe that there is no such thing as a hypoallergenic animal. There have never been any studies undertaken to verify whether any canine is completely hypoallergenic.

The average size of a Goldendoodle is between that of a Standard Poodle and a Golden Retriever, for instance females weighing approximately 40 to 60 pounds, and males weighing approximately 60 to 70 pounds. Nevertheless, it is possible for this breed to reach in excess of 100 pounds, due to the unpredictability of physical traits in hybrid dogs.

The coat of the Goldendoodle can range from curly, straight, or wavy, depending upon its genes though you can always have them wear cool dog coats. This breed is also available in different colors, depending on the Poodle genes that are passed onto the pup. However, the colors can include black, blonde, café, chocolate, parti, phantom, red, silver, tan, white, or a mix. It is possible for the same litter to have a different mix of colors.

The Goldendoodle is generally a loving dog, which shows a exceptional amount of loyalty and a keen sense of smell. It is possible to teach them to enjoy swimming, as both the Golden Retriever and the Poodle generally enjoy the water. The Goldendoodle is friendly, intelligent, and exceptionally good with children, just like the Golden Retriever and the Poodle. They are relatively easy to train, highly sociable, and good with strangers and other dogs. They love to play and typically have the retrieving instincts of the Golden Retriever.

The Goldendoodle should not be trained as a watchdog as they are unlikely to respond to any strangers or intruders in an aggressive manner. It is extremely important that a Goldendoodle is kept on a leash at all times. The reason for this is that they are extremely keen on following their noses, and will very often decide that they have turned deaf when their owner gives a command. Because of their high energy levels, this breed should be supervised at all times when it is in the company of children. This is not because they will intentionally hurt a child, but they are a boisterous breed when playing, which can result in a child being knocked over, or being injured.

Both the Golden Retriever and Poodle are prone to several health problems. Consequently, it is imperative that the parents of the Goldendoodle are certified for being free from hip dysplasia, cataracts, and other inheritable problems.
