How to Crate Train Your Dog

Learning to crate train your dog is not as difficult as you may think. On the other hand, if your pet is not housebroken, don’t give him too much freedom around your home, especially when no one is around. Don’t wait until your dog is an adult before you start training him, start when their young. Simply place them in a crate with a dog crate pad and one of their favorite squeaky dog toys, while you’re away from your home. A dog crate will act as a temporary living quarters when you’re away. Plus they will not ruin it once they get used to being in it on a daily basis.
Whenever you’re away from home for a long period of time, don’t forget to take your dog out of your home for a walk. When you’re away from home, leave your puppy in his crate along with his favorite dog toy. Repeat this process while he’s still young, eventually, he’ll learn how to hold urine. If there is more than one member of your household, see if they can take your dog out for a walk while you’re at work or away from your home.
Make sure that you never use the crate as a form of punishment. Your dog will learn to crate going into the crate. So, remember, only place your dog in the crate is when you are leaving your home for a few hours. When you’re leaving for work, a day trip or any place where you’ll be gone for more than an hour.
As soon as you start training, you will want to introduce your dog to his first dog toy. This is a method that is recommended when training your dog. Also, make sure that you praise your dog each time they obey a command. Also, when you come back home from being out for a while, don’t punish or yell at your dog if you discover that he went to the bathroom in his crate.
After coming home, make sure that you allow your dog to roam and sniff and give him enough time to complete his. Your dog will begin to learn that if he does well, he will be rewarded with a treat. If your dog does not do their business within a set amount of time, take them back into your home.
Dogs tend to wear out their dog toys very fast; you’ll want to make sure that you always have access to new dog toys. Most dogs have more than five dog toys, buying one or two dog toys weekly will keep him happy.
