Being a dog owner is a huge responsibility.  In essence, you are the new parent of this cute and cuddly ball of fur and as the parent, you are responsible for your dog much as you are responsible for your own children.  Dogs need attention, food, water and shelter.  They need you to play with them and to love them and to make sure that all of their needs are met as they cannot speak for themselves.

One way you can show your dog attention is to play with him.  Dogs love to play fetch and tug of war and chase tag.  If you live in an area that has limited space to do these things then you may want to consider looking for a local dog park.  Most often, dog parks can be found at city parks, giving you another option for your pooch to have fun.

It is important to keep in mind that there will be other dogs at the dog park so you do not want to take a dog that has trouble getting along with other dogs.  While you will be the one playing with your pooch, he will also have a chance to sharpen his social skills and make some friends.  Dogs that are of friendly nature can have a blast chasing and playing with other dogs of the same nature so be sure Fido is well behaved before you take him to a dog park.

There are several benefits to taking your dog to a dog park with the first being a safe place to stretch its legs and get some running time in.  Your dog can play Frisbee with you and even tug of war as these parks are generally spacious enough for several dogs and their owners to join in the fun.

If you take your dog to a dog park, you need to be sure to bring along supplies for your pooch.  Most parks offer some basic supplies but you will not know for sure if the supplies at the park are filled frequently. These supplies would consist of doggy bags to pick up any messes your pooch leaves in the park and water fountain so that your dog can be well hydrated.

It is best if you bring along your own water and dog bowls for your dog so if the fountain isn't working, your dog can still be able to get hydrated.  You should also bring along your own poop bags to pick up any mess Fido leaves at the park in case the parks supply of bags is diminished.  This helps to make for a pleasant park for all who want to visit.

If your dog is a first time visitor to the park you may want to keep him at arm's length and on their fancy dog leashes at all times.  This way you can get a hold of him quickly if things are not going as planned.  By following some simple rules and guidelines you will find that you are your pooch can have the best time at the park together.
